Readers' Services Assistant/DesPlaines Public Library

“The best job I ever had.” That’s what the departing staff person said about our friendly and creative Readers’ Services team. We’re seeking computer-savvy book lovers with excellent customer service skills, affinity for the internet, and affection for all media, including popular fiction, audiobooks and movies. Duties include selecting popular materials, staffing the public desk, leading book discussions, doing outreach, and creating bibliographies and displays. Must have Bachelor’s Degree and one year customer service experience OR two years college and three years library or bookstore experience in customer service and valid Drivers License. 37.5 hours a week, including evenings and weekends. Readers' Advisory Assistant Position Open, Schaumburg Township District Library

Readers' Advisory Assistant needed for Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5-10pm, with opportunity for additional fill-in hours. The Readers' Advisory Assistant assists patrons in-person, via telephone or e-mail - regarding questions and searches for materials in the Library’s fiction collection. They also create book displays, bibliographies and bookmarks highlighting topics within the collection. They are called upon to assist patrons with reserves or interlibrary loan requests and assist patrons with the photocopiers and in the use of reusable card machines. A Bachelor's degree, or a Library Technical Assistant's (LTA) degree is required along with a working knowledge of word processing and a love of reading fiction. Related experience and/or training, or MLS (or in-process degree) is highly desirable. Starting salary: $11.39 hourly. To apply, send cover letter and resume to: Susan R.
