Summer Job Opportunity - Mount Prospect Public Library


POSITION: FICTION/AV/TEEN - Summer Reading Assistant


SUPERVISOR:
Assistant Department Head, Fiction/AV/Teen Department.
RANGE: S2
HOURS/SCHEDULE: Summer hours as determined annually

PURPOSE:
Primary responsibility will include assisting at the public desk for the adult and young adult summer reading programs. Will assist teens and adults with signups including recording progress, handing out prizes, maintaining summer reading supply inventory and other summer reading tasks. Will also assist librarians with teen programming, outreach, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Staffing the summer reading desk: 90%
Miscellaneous duties: 10%

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (in alphabetical order)

  • Applies values-based customer service
  • Assists teens and adults with Fiction/AV/Teen Summer Reading signups, records progress, and hands out prizes
  • Assists with creating and updating booklists and teen book displays
  • Assists with Fiction/AV/Teen projects
  • Assists with teen outreach visits and teen programming as needed
  • Assists with weeding YA fiction/nonfiction including pulling books, searching Horizon and standard lists, etc. and preparing the books for review by the librarian
  • Continues with adult fiction weeding should YA fiction be completed
  • Enters/retrieves information from an automated database
  • Maintains SRP supply inventory including bagging items, assembling, etc.
  • Staffs the summer reading desk
  • Attends appropriate meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Other SRP related tasks as assigned

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High School graduate. College and/or library experience a plus.
