Hours: 12-16 hrs/week. Wednesday 8AM to 2PM; Thursday 10AM to 2PM and Saturday 8AM to 2PM

To provide friendly, courteous service to Library patrons and to maintain Library circulation routines for resources and equipment in conjunction with established procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Circulate library materials in WorkFlows, the Library Automated System (SIRSI).
  • Process new library patron records using WorkFlows, the Library Automated System (SIRSI). Update and maintain confidential patron records in WorkFlows database.
  • Refer library users to Reference Librarians for research assistance.
  • Assist users with photocopiers, microfilm/fiche, library AV equipment, and computers.
  • Assist users in locating library resources and equipment.
  • Maintain an orderly public services area by shelving, shelf-reading, shifting collections, cleaning, equipment maintenance, and moving furniture, as needed.
  • Collect and record library fines and fees for overdue and lost library materials. Maintain confidential patron records of fines and fees. Reconcile overdue fines between library patron record, Library, and Registration.
  • Collect money for printing and provide change for photocopiers.
  • Answer telephone inquiries.
  • Physically ready Library for daily operation. Open and close.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of books and carts.
  • Inventory.
  • Perform Library security.
  • Prepare records, reports, and statistics related to circulation activities and public services on daily and monthly basis.
  • Maintain an inventory of circulation, reserve, and interlibrary loan supplies and forms. Initiate orders and replenish supplies.
  • Process overdues. Run monthly Overdue Report and format in Microsoft Word. Create, verify, and distribute Overdue Notices. Develop and update Overdue Policy and Procedures.
  • Process interlibrary loan requests in accordance with interlibrary loan guidelines. Process incoming and outgoing periodical, book, and/or audio-visual requests. Verify MCC patron requests (staff, faculty, student, and community borrowers); locate holders in Liason or WorldCat and order via Carli or OCLC online ILL database. FAX request when necessary. Renew ILL materials for both MCC patrons and ILL patrons. Assist the Director of Library to develop, maintain, and update ILL Policies and Procedures.
  • Process Reserve Materials. Add Reserve Materials to the Library Reserve Module. Maintain Reserve Collection, update and remove materials when necessary. Assist the Director of Library to develop, maintain, and update Reserve Policies and Procedures working within the Copyright Guidelines.
  • Interview, hire, and train student workers. Supervise daily functions of student worker.
  • Check in periodicals using Library Automated System (SIRSI). Prepare periodicals for shelving by attaching barcode, strip, and property label. Maintain periodical shelves.
  • Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent. Some college background desirable.

EXPERIENCE: Two years related experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Typing, filing, telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to do detail work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, community borrowers, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Ability to use judgment in performing circulation duties.
  • Willingness to upgrade skills by attending on/off campus training sessions.
  • Maturity and sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Physical stamina, ability to pull, push, and safely lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to work in an automated environment.
  • Strong service attitude.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
