Winter Break Employment Opportunities at Follett Library Resources / BWI

Our growing Custom Cataloging department is seeking LTA students who have completed their coursework in cataloging to work with us during your winter break. This opportunity will provide the student with hands on experience in MARC record editing and customization for public libraries. We are compensating at $13.73 an hour and have four positions to fill. Under direction, the student will: 1) Perform MARC record editing for customer accounts in accordance with specifications provided by the library, and in accordance with standard library practices, for titles in order of priority determined by departmental management or the Catalogers; 2) Access MARC utility to create file of MARC records matching the customer’s order. Verify content corresponds with bibliographic information in catalog record and reference and collection coding; 3) Verify and correct cataloging information, including annotations, verify Dewey Decimal number, verify MARC tagging, genre subject headings, and other additions/corrections as necessary and appropriate in the customer’s file of MARC records; 4) Create template of required processing labels for subsequent application in processing department; 5) Create labels and card sets as necessary; 6) Update customers’ MARC records to include specific (item level) holdings data. Please contact Barb Houser at (815) 578-3305 if you would like to explore this further and fill out an application.
